Born in 1974, Rajeev started training in Mizhavu drumming at Kerala Kalamandalam at the age of 12.His debut was the following year at the Kalamandalam Koothambalam.He completed a four year diploma course followed by two years of higher training with a scholarship from the government. He has been working with the Ammannur Gurukulam since 1989 and in 1995 became the chief drummer here. 

His Gurus are Kalamandalam P.K.Narayanan Nambiar, Eshwaran Unni and V.K.K.Hariharan. He has worked with all the prominent Kutiyattam institutions and artistes. For almost five years he was the main drummer for Guru Ammannur Madhava Chakyar’s performances. He has also participated at several Dance and Theatre festivals in India such as Khajuraho, Bharath Rang Mahotsav etc.He has toured abroad widely with several of the prominent Kutiyattam artistes. 

He was the only Indian musician to participate in The World Theatre Project. and did music along with musician from other countries for the production East of the Moon West of the Sun. 

He has been the chief musicians for several new productions of Guru Ammannur Madhava Chakyar’s Samudrataranam, Hanumadhootam etc, G.Venu’s Sakuntalam,Vikramorvasheeyam etc, Margi Madhu’s Karnabharam, Macbeth etc. and Ammannur Kuttan Chakyar’s Mayashiras. 

Presently he is the chief musician at the Ammannur Chachu Chakyar Smaraka Gurukulam.
